• Press Report -  SCVAC Watford, Southend Half Marathon,  EYAL - Chelmsford

Superveteran John Batchelor was Ilford AC's only winner in the club's 3rd match in the SCVAC league held at Watford last Monday. 65 years young Batchelor, who has been plagued by an Achilles tendon all year, showed his contemporaries a clean pair of heals as he sped through the finish of the 5000m in an excellent time of 19 mins  9 secs.
A depleted squad of only 6 athletes, Ray Rawlinson, Roger Honey, Jim McNamee, and JIm Allingham,  Batchelor and Martin Clarke, all tried desparately to cover most events but eventually had to give way to fatigue and injury. Nevertheless Ilford still managed 4th team out of 8 with strong squads from Barnet, Enfield and Haringey and Herts Phoenix occupying the first 3 positions.

Two intrepid Ilford runners braved the searing temperatures of last Sunday's Southend half marathon. With temperatures well into the 30's most times were down by at least 5 minutes and yet Keith Ennis ran strongly to clock an admirable 1hr 43mins 45 secs.Sukhbindar Jandu further carried the flag  finishing in 2 hours 22 minutes 57 secs.
