    Ilford AC continued their cross country season without many established stars due to injury and unavailability. The third Essex League fixture was held over the very demanding course at Basildon’s Gloucester Park on Saturday. Cross Country Captain Malcolm Muir managed 19th position despite feeling unwell all week and not being able to train United States import and debutante Andy Whitney coped well with the hills and had a fine run in 68th position. Darren Bottrill continues to improve with a solid 80th place. Three of the club’s golden oldies, Martin Clarke ,92nd, John Mackenzie, 98th and John Platt,108th completed the  scorers for the men’s squad.
    Other finishers were Henry Ricketts ,111h, Duncan Turner 112th, Graham Williams 120th and Jim McNamee making his first outing of the season 143rd.

    The club’s women have the nucleus of a very strong squad with Breege Nordin,17th, Keelie Brooks 20th, and Nicola Hopkinson 21st, all battling it out for supremacy. When the likes of Karen Sindall and Lyndsay Barker return to full fitness Ilford should easily improve on their 6th position and be a real force within the county. Pam Jones 42nd and Sally Gillam 44th also competed well.


    In the Junior races Ilford saw a debut by Alex Legon in the U-13Boys with a time of 17.33 finishing 42nd. In the same race saw Liam Leddy showed good form with a time of 15.02 in 26th.The U13Girls race saw Aimee Jones finish 14th in a very good time of 14.09 and in the U-15Girls Madeline Thompson demonstrated that her hard training is now paying off finishing in 19.55 and 18th place.Maria Whitfield made her first appearance of the season finishing 26th in 22.19 and Lydia Hall coming back from injury finished in a credible time of 23.52 in 29th. The final runner was Nathaniel Whitfield also making his first appearance of the season in a time of 19.25 in 47th.
